About the museum
Museo Palazzo Atzori is in the centre of Paulilatino, in a stately building that belonged to the family of Cavalier Antonio Atzori, a local notary who died in 1900 and was the last descendant of a wealthy family of landowners and livestock breeders. The palace, also called “il castello di Paulilatino” (the castle of Paulilatino), preserves memories and objects of agro-pastoral life from the late 18th to the early 20th century.
The ethnographic section recreates the rooms of a traditional house: the courtyard with its collection of stone fragments, the yoke of the ox cart, stone millstones, the dining and bedrooms and the cellar. Work tools, bread, sweets, embroidery and cheese-making document the life of the local community sixty or seventy years ago; one room is dedicated to bread.
The new archaeological section, created with funds from the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), presents in four rooms the finds from the site of Santa Cristina and the area of the Lugherras nuraghe. The route, through immersive spaces, tells the story of the cult of water in the Nuragic world, with a replica of the sacred well, lamps and votive objects. The museum is run by the Archeotour cooperative together with the sacred well of Santa Cristina, with a shared ticket.
