About the museum
The museum occupies a manor house in Aragonese style, built between the late 16th and the early 17th century and restored by the municipality of Abbasanta. The building keeps many original decorative elements and a porch on the street, one of the few from the Spanish period still surviving in Sardinia: the loggia hosted pilgrims, travellers and merchants during the feast of Santa Caterina and the Fiera del Lino (flax fair), which is no longer held today.
The museum was founded on the initiative of the Associazione Archeologica Etnografica Abbasantese, originally with the aim of displaying common-use tools from the 16th and 17th centuries.
In various rooms the route documents everyday rural and agro-pastoral life from the 19th century to the early fifties, through tools and everyday objects. A teaching room hosts workshops for children and adults.
