About the museum
The Palazzo dell’Archeologia e della Storia del territorio, known by the acronym P.A.S.T., is part of MontichiariMusei, the city museum system set up by the municipality in 2009 and recognised by the Lombardy Region. It works as a modern civic archaeological museum: alongside the exhibition route it hosts exhibitions, talks, lectures and workshops that keep visitors, enthusiasts and schools up to date on archaeological research in the area.
The exhibition route is built mainly on reproductions of ancient evidence, inscriptions and sculptures found in the area, dating from the Roman period to the 17th century. Through these “ancient stones” the museum explains how the rural landscape was organised: place names, rights over land and water, and rules on property and land use. One part of the display is dedicated in particular to the Lombard presence on the morainic hills of the Monte Clarense area.
