Temporary exhibition on the ground floor of the museum with works by the artist Renzo Troglio.
Museo Lechi opened in 2012 to house the collections donated to the municipality of Montichiari in 2005 and 2008 by Counts Luigi and Piero Lechi, descendants of a Brescian family of collectors and Napoleonic generals. The original core dates back to the mid-18th century, when Count Pietro Lechi set up the first collection of paintings in the family’s town palace; with his son Faustino, the collection grew to nearly six hundred paintings, most of which were scattered during the 19th century.
In the 20th century Fausto Lechi devoted his life to the study of Brescian painting and of the historic residences of the region, and this tradition led Luigi and Piero to start collecting. The collection comprises about 370 inventory numbers, including paintings, drawings, miniatures, prints and porcelain. It also includes works from the picture collections of other noble Brescian families and offers a view of Lombard collecting between the 18th and 19th centuries.
The permanent display occupies the first floor of Palazzo De Tabaris, with about one hundred paintings in thirteen rooms arranged chronologically and by theme, from the 15th to the 19th century, plus a collection of paintings in the conference hall. One room is dedicated to Giacomo Ceruti, known as Il Pitocchetto, with “La donna che fa la calza”. The museum library houses the Archivio fotografico Fausto Lechi, with about ten thousand photographs of Brescian historic residences.
