About the museum
The museum is an educational centre born from the research and collections of the Associazione Naturalistica Friulana ANF Tarcento, which also contributed to its creation through caving research. Its aim is to spread knowledge of the environment and respect for it, encouraging direct contact with the people who gathered the displayed material.
The route is laid out in themed rooms: a reception room on reading rocks, a “journey through deep time” with fossils in chronological order, a section on Friuli from the coast at Grado to the Ugovizza area, and spaces devoted to cephalopods, minerals, caving, Friulian palaeontology and archaeology, and present-day life. Some sections are still being set up.
The displays include a rich collection of ammonites, echinoids and fossil teeth, igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks, Mesozoic marine reptiles such as the plesiosaur Andrea and the mosasaur Ra, Mediterranean crustaceans, insect collections and local fauna.
