About the museum
The Museo Etnografico di Lusevera was established in 1973 on the initiative of a group of cultural workers from the Centro Ricerche Culturali di Lusevera, with Professor Guglielmo Cerno among its promoters. After the earthquake of 1976 it remained closed for a long time and reopened to the public only in 1981.
In 2012 the building was renovated and re-displayed; restorers from the Goriški muzej in Nova Gorica carried out the conservation of all the objects. It is housed in the village’s former dairy, whose equipment has been preserved, and is dedicated to the memory of the Slovene community of the upper Val Torre.
The collections document the daily life of those who lived in the valley: clothing, headwear, footwear and jewellery linked to customs and festivals, kitchen utensils, farm, craft and household tools for working the fields, wood and weaving, objects relating to livestock rearing, dairy production and religion, as well as ceramics, textiles and sculptures by local craftspeople. The museum also specialises in collecting photographic and audiovisual memories of the Benečija in the 20th century and is part of the MISMOTU museum network.
