Temporarily closed (expected until 2027-01-07). The museum is closed to the public for PNRR works to remove physical and cognitive barriers, from 9 February 2026 to 7 January 2027.

About the museum

The National Archaeological Museum of Crotone is located in the historic heart of the city, on the site of the ancient Greek acropolis, which in the Middle Ages became the centre of the walled town. It is part of the Parchi archeologici di Crotone e Sibari.

The route takes visitors through the millennia-long history of the Crotone area: from prehistory, with stone axes, scrapers and Iron Age finds, to the birth and development of the Greek colony of Kroton, its relations with the native world, funerary rituals and everyday life. Ample space is given to the settlements of Krimisa, Petelia and Makalla, linked to foundation myths and to the cults of Apollo, Philoctetes and the Sirens.

Special attention is devoted to the extra-urban sanctuaries, including those of Vigna Nuova, Sant'Anna di Cutro, Cotronei and Zinga di Casabona, and above all the famous sanctuary of Apollo Aleo at Cirò Marina. For the Roman period, it is mainly the finds from the urban necropolises that document the everyday life and economy of the city. A PNRR project to remove physical and cognitive barriers keeps the museum closed for the period indicated on the website.
