About the museum

The Bottega del Fabbro is located in the historic centre of Armungia, in a small two-storey stone building from the first half of the 19th century, restored in keeping with the original materials and building techniques. The craft workshop was opened in 1928 in the former family home of the Vellini family, which changed the use of its spaces.

A large wooden portal leads to the covered passage with the frame used for shoeing working animals, and then to the courtyard, where sandstone grinding wheels for sharpening tools and a wall-mounted drill can be seen. These spaces extend the forge, the heart of the work, which preserves the bellows and tools of the farrier, known locally as su ferreri.

The museum documents one of the most important trades for the agro-pastoral communities of the past, tracing the history of the Vellini family within the wider context of work in 19th-century Sardinia. The display is enriched by panels with images, descriptions and testimonies. The workshop is part of the Sistema museale di Armungia, together with the Museo etnografico Sa Domu de is Ainas, the Museo storico Emilio e Joyce Lussu and the Nuraghe.
