About the museum
The Monte Luna necropolis lies in the territory of Senorbì, in the fertile Trexenta, at the foot of the hill of the same name, facing the height of Santu Teru. Here, between the 5th and 3rd centuries BC, the Punic communities who lived on the nearby hill were buried; there is also a group of Roman tombs of the “a cassone” or “alla cappuccina” type and traces of earlier occupation, from the pre-Nuragic period to the Bronze Age.
Excavations have brought to light about 120 burials, mostly shaft tombs with one or two side chambers covered by a flat or sloping ceiling; there are also rectangular pit graves and amphora burials. The grave goods, which are of great interest, testify to contacts with Egyptian and Greek cultures and are displayed in the rooms of the Museo Archeologico Sa Domu Nosta di Senorbì.
On the nearby height of Santu Teru, excavations by the Università di Cagliari have identified a fortified acropolis with residential quarters, dating from the 5th century BC to the 1st–2nd century AD. Information and tickets for visiting the site are available at the museum ticket office.
