About the museum

The museum, whose name in Sardinian means “the house of the work tools”, is housed in the former town hall of Armungia, built in the mid-19th century on the site historically linked to the church of San Giovanni. The first exhibition, created by a group of girls, opened on 4 December 1982.

The collection numbers about 600 objects that belonged to the people of the village and reconstructs the farming and pastoral life of the Gerrei. The theme rooms are devoted to clothing, women’s work, agriculture, ironworking and the land, with hunting, fishing, herding, charcoal production and local dwellings. Three small stone “case minime” house a weaving workshop and a multimedia section.

The museum is part of the Sistema museale di Armungia, together with the Bottega del fabbro (blacksmith’s workshop), the Museo storico Emilio e Joyce Lussu and the Nuraghe Armungia, and serves as the access point to the nuraghe.
