About the museum
The museum occupies several 16th-century rooms adjoining the basilica of Sant’Antonino and situated above the Chapter Sacristy. It houses furnishings and paintings from the chapels demolished during restoration work carried out between 1915 and 1930, together with works belonging to the church’s treasury.
Among the most important pieces are three 15th-century dossals: two attributed to the Master of the Sant’Antonino dossal, one of which, dated 1425–1430, illustrates eight episodes from the life of the saint, and a third, later one by a painter from Piacenza, with a fragmentary Crucifixion. Also on display are a Saint Antonino from the Lombard school of the late 15th century and a Nativity of Mary attributed to Giulio Cesare Procaccini.
The museum also keeps a 17th-century brandazza, formerly used in Corpus Domini processions, and rare examples of illuminated codices, parchments and incunabula, partly belonging to the basilica’s archive, the oldest in the city, with documents going back to the 7th century.
