About the museum
Saint Giuseppe Benedetto Cottolengo was born in the house in Bra on 3 May 1786, the son of Giuseppe Antonio Cottolengo and Benedetta Chiarotti. The Cottolengo family lived in Bra from 1740 to 1994 and represents a rich strand of the history and culture of Bra.
The building combines architectural styles from different periods and was returned to its original beauty by a recent restoration, faithful to the spirit of the various periods and to the habits of the family who lived there. The route passes through the study of the saint’s father, the children’s rooms, the spaces of convivial life such as the dining room and the rustic room, and the service rooms such as the kitchen, cellar and stables. Furnishings, everyday objects, official documents and private memorabilia offer a view of the life of at least five generations of a wealthy and enlightened middle-class family.
