About the museum
The Museo del Giocattolo in Bra grew out of the collection “Quasi per gioco” assembled by the antiques dealer Michele Chiesa from Bra, who began collecting toys almost for fun and, with the help of his son Giovanni, put together over thirty years one of the most important toy collections in Piedmont. The collection was entrusted to the Comune di Bra and is housed on the top floor of the Centro Culturale Polifunzionale “G. Arpino”.
The collection contains over a thousand objects, industrial, handcrafted and popular, dating from the late 19th century to the 1940s–1960s, many of them unique. The route is organised in themed rooms: early childhood; games for girls, with bisque and Lenci dolls; games for boys, with toy soldiers; tin toys; table football and pinball; school, with period desks and exercise books; active games with tricycles, pedal cars and aeroplanes; and toy theatres with puppets, marionettes and historical comic strips.
The objects cannot be handled freely, so visits are always guided. The museum also has a workshop room for educational activities.
