About the museum
The museum is housed in the home of the artist Guido Frabboni (1926–1994), in part of a former barchessa (long farm outbuilding) in the centre of San Pietro in Casale, within the town's cultural park. The donation of the property was completed in 1998, and the conversion works were concluded in 2003, when the museum opened.
The building extends over three levels. The ground floor houses the rooms for temporary exhibitions. On the first floor is the permanent archaeological section “Pianura romana. Villa Vicus Via”, with Roman finds, mainly from the Augustan age, from the local territory, including the settlement of Maccaretolo, rustic villas and farm settlements, as well as the grave goods of Gothic tombs excavated at the Interporto and Bentivolesque majolica.
The top floor houses the permanent sections of the city museum: one devoted to the life and artistic work of Natale Guido Frabboni, and a room that holds the donation of sculptures and paintings by Raimondo Rimondi, an artist born in San Pietro in Casale.
