About the museum
The Museo della Musica opened in 2013 inside the town hall (palazzo comunale) of Pieve di Cento and is set up in the foyers of the Alice Zeppilli municipal theatre. It tells the long musical tradition of the town, from the bell-ringing tradition to the town band, from the lutherie workshops to the Scuola di Liuteria (school of lutherie).
A large room houses instruments made by Luigi Mozzani, owned by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cento, and other instruments by Mario Maccaferri, lent by his family. On the second floor is the collection dedicated to the soprano Alice Zeppilli, donated by her heir Giuseppina Melloni, with memorabilia of the singer and of her husband, the cellist Giuseppe Alberghini, and a reconstruction of her dressing room with original furnishings and accessories.
The Zeppilli section includes a piano, a stage costume, a suitcase, documents, records and photographs with dedications by Gabriele D'Annunzio and Enrico Caruso. Since 2024 a digitisation project has been under way, to be completed in 2026, with an immersive video show and audio.
