About the museum
The Museo delle Storie di Pieve opened on 15 November 2015 and tells the thousand-year history of Pieve di Cento, from its foundation to the changes in its territory, urban development, culture, economy and society. It has two venues: one in the town's Rocca and one at Porta Bologna.
In the Rocca, eight rooms present the history of the town with artefacts and multimedia tools: the Salotto delle Storie (salon of stories), the Sala dell'Accessibilità, the Sala Matilde di Canossa, the Sala Antonio di Vincenzo, the Sala Fratelli Taddia, the Sala Angelo Gessi and the Sala Sergio Baraldi. The route follows the transformations of the territory, economic and social developments, crafts, industry and the processing of hemp, which is also the subject of the Museo della canapa at Porta Asìa.
One room is reserved for the Partecipanza Agraria (agrarian commons) and its link with the Miraculous Crucifix venerated in the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maggiore, while another recalls the illustrious people of Pieve in culture, art and sport. At Porta Bologna is the digital photographic archive “Giovanni Melloni”, with a digital library for tracing the history of the town up to the present day.
