Archaeological museum on the ground floor of the Castello Ducale in Bisaccia, with grave goods from Iron Age tombs excavated on the Cimitero Vecchio hill.
October 17, 2026 – November 30, 2026
Solo exhibition by the artist Elena Rubino, set up in the rooms of the museum complex of the Castello Ducale di Bisaccia.
The museum occupies the ground floor of the Castello Ducale in Bisaccia, in the province of Avellino. It displays state-owned finds from excavations carried out between 1973 and 1996 by the Soprintendenza archeologica di Salerno (heritage authority) on the Cimitero Vecchio hill, where a vast necropolis, in use from the late 9th to the late 7th century BC, and a settlement from the 6th–5th century BC built over it have come to light.
The exhibition reconstructs the history of Bisaccia in the protohistoric and archaic periods through the grave goods of the tombs: a selection of contexts from about thirty tombs of the early and late phases of the Iron Age, consisting mainly of ceramic vessels and personal ornaments. The museum's website refers to more than 800 finds from about fifty tombs.
The display follows a chronological route across three rooms, one of which is still being fitted out according to the regional record. Captions and information panels guide visitors, and a continuously projected 3D animation shows daily life in the prehistoric settlement.
