About the museum
The museum was conceived and created by Professor Beniamino Tartaglia together with the local community. It recreates the workplaces, homes and everyday life of the old world of Alta Irpinia and is also designed as a teaching tool. Activities have been running for about twenty-five years.
The collection comprises some 14,000 original objects — tools, trousseaux, furnishings and documents — arranged in collections and spread across more than 130 rooms grouped into 12 thematic sections. The exhibition spaces cover about 1,500 m², to which an equipped outdoor area is added.
The museum is run by a non-profit association and relies on volunteers and donations. Besides the visit, the website offers a virtual tour, an archive of memories, a collection of local proverbs and a library; educational activities are offered for schools and universities.
