About the museum
The civic museum is housed in Palazzo Porti, a 19th-century two-storey building on Piazza Diaz, renovated in 1985 and fitted out as a museum in 1999. In 2015 a new opening marked the return to Cirò Marina, after 91 years, of the head, feet and hand of the Apollo acrolith, which are reproduced in the museum.
On the ground floor are the materials from the excavations of the temple of Apollo Aleo at Punta Alice, including the cast of the head and feet of the cult statue: the marble originals, dating to around 440 BC, are kept at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Reggio Calabria.
In the first-floor rooms there is a photographic and cartographic exhibition on Calabrian underwater archaeology over the last thirty years.
