About the museum
The museum was established by the Lazio Region in 1989 and is housed in Palazzo Gori, over three floors. The materials are arranged by provenance and in chronological sequence and illustrate the development of Sabine civilisation.
On the ground floor are materials from the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic, important because no sites of that period had previously been known along the Tiber. On the first floor are the protohistoric and archaic sections, with evidence from the Late and Final Bronze Age to the late Iron Age, including bucchero and black-glazed pottery from the necropoleises and a collection of iron weapons.
The second floor is devoted to the Hellenistic period, the Romanisation and the Middle Ages in the Sabine territory.
