About the museum
The Museo civico archeologico di Padria is housed in the former monte granatico, a late 19th-century building in the centre of the village, next to the Aragonese church of Santa Giulia. The core of the collection was formed through excavation campaigns, donations and surface finds from various localities in the area.
The first section presents Neolithic finds of the Ozieri culture, graphic and photographic reproductions of the Nuragic bronzes of Padria held in the archaeological museums of Cagliari and Sassari, including the two small boats (navicelle) and the archer, and a model of the territory. Of particular interest is the votive deposit at the San Giuseppe site, linked to the Roman centre of Gurulis Vetus, with anatomical terracottas, animals, fruit and human figurines dating from between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD.
The collection also includes Punic-Roman materials owned by the Comune, such as black-glaze vases, incense burners in the form of the head of a kernophoros goddess, unguentaria, cinerary urns and oil lamps. Some panels illustrate the remains of the Roman city of Gurulis Vetus, with bridges and a stretch of road connected to the road network between the west coast and the Logudoro.
