About the museum
The civic museum occupies four rooms of the Palazzo Centurione, a 17th-century building in Genoese style on Via Garibaldi that also houses the town hall. It was founded in 1986. A reorganised historic archive is located in one wing of the same palazzo.
The collections include archaeological finds from the Stone Age to the Roman period, inscriptions, statues and paintings from small abandoned churches, 18th-century documents, parchments and statutes from the 15th century, antique weapons, 17th-century ex-votos and wrought-iron work. There are also materials from the Roman city of Leptis Magna in Libya, and an art-historical section with furnishings, canvases and ex-votos from the 15th century onwards.
