The civic museum occupies the first floor of Palazzo Amaduri, a historic Baroque noble palazzo in the centre of Gioiosa Ionica, which passed to the municipality in the 20th century.
The rooms display canvases from some of the town’s churches and works donated by local artists. An archaeological section presents finds recovered from the area of the Naniglio, an underground building from the Imperial period (2nd–3rd century AD).
