About the museum
The museum was founded by the municipal administration of Lovere in 1996, and in 2004 Lombardy Region recognised it as a museum collection. It is run by the voluntary cultural association “Amici del Museo Civico di Scienze Naturali di Lovere” and is named after Alessio Amighetti, a priest and naturalist who made the natural beauty of Lake Iseo known in the 19th century with his work “Gemma subalpina”.
The collections document above all the nature of the Alto Sebino (the upper part of Lake Iseo): 221 birds, including birds of prey and waterbirds; some mammals; dioramas and insect collections, including two collections of butterflies and moths; about 400 species of gastropods and 83 bivalves in the malacology section; a general herbarium with 2,345 specimens; and about 400 minerals with some 5,000 micro-crystals. The geology section includes a large rock collection, fossils and material from the Curioni collection, on loan from the Accademia Tadini.
In 2026 the museum celebrated thirty years of activity and opened an educational room for children and schools, equipped with microscopes, work materials and a screen for images and films.
