About the museum
The civic museum is located in Piazza del Popolo, on the upper floors of the Palazzo del Capitano and the Palazzo del Popolo, Todi's medieval civic centre. The visit opens with the Museo della città, which illustrates the most significant moments of Todi's history and holds the marble slab of the 10th–11th century with Saints Fortunatus, Cassian and Christ the Redeemer.
The five following sections are devoted to archaeology, with Attic black- and red-figure pottery, architectural terracottas and votive bronzes; to numismatics, with about 1,500 coins from the Greek and pre-Roman period to the modern era; to textiles, with sacred vestments and objects in silk, velvet, damask and linen from the 15th to the 18th century; and to everyday pottery from the 8th to the 13th century.
The picture gallery holds works by Giovanni di Pietro, known as lo Spagna, six canvases by Ferraù da Faenza from the cathedral and the church of San Fortunato, the Deposition by Pietro Paolo Sensini of 1608 and a Madonna and Child with saints by Andrea Polinori.
