About the museum
The Museo civico “Don Nicola Gambino” in Rocca San Felice, in upper Irpinia, holds the finds recovered during the archaeological research carried out in the course of restoration work on the castle and village. They are objects made of ceramic, metal, glass, wood, bone, terracotta and stone, brought to light during the excavations.
After long cleaning and restoration work, the museum displays around 150 ceramic objects for everyday use and for the table, six coins, eight stone projectiles, thirteen metal objects, glass fragments, a fireplace jamb and some pieces of worked bone. Most of the material dates from the medieval and late medieval periods.
The five display cases contain painted glazed ceramics and proto-maiolica tableware, cooking wares such as pans, pots and lids, amphorae, and undecorated and painted vessels in various shades of red and brown. Other cases hold stone projectiles for catapults, a small terracotta ball used as a toy in the early Middle Ages, pins, knives, nails, horseshoes and spindle whorls.
