About the museum
The Museo diocesano di arte sacra di Nusco belongs to the Archdiocese of Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi-Conza-Nusco-Bisaccia. It is housed in the rooms once occupied by the bishops of Nusco, near the cathedral, and aims to make known the history of faith in Alta Irpinia through the works created over the centuries by the individual faith communities.
The route is designed as a journey back in time and traces the history of the seven ancient local churches that flowed into the present diocese: Conza, Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, Nusco, Bisaccia, Montemarano, Monteverde and Frigento. Each has its own space within the exhibition route.
Statues, paintings and liturgical furnishings are displayed on a dynamic principle, with rotation over time to foster links with the parishes and the creation of new exhibition spaces across the territory. In some rooms the original arrangement of furniture and fittings has been kept, to preserve a domestic character: the museum aims to be the house of memory for the whole local Church.
