About the museum
The Museo “Paolino Macchia” is the museum collection of the Comune di Villamaina, in the province of Avellino. The Comune owns it and regards it as a cultural and historical facility of interest to the local community.
The collection includes prehistoric fragments, Samnite-period items, evidence from the Roman period and materials up to the modern age. As early as 1656, Bella Bona, in his Ragguaglio, recorded Roman inscriptions, some transported to Villamaina and some to Torella. Of particular importance is the Roman lapidarium, whose epigraphic corpus helps reconstruct the history of the town.
The general inventory counts 933 finds, including a considerable number of bricks with stamped marks: the stamps can be attributed to Roman-period factories, and some seem to date from the late Republican period. In September 2026 the Comune began looking for a Third Sector organisation (non-profit) to which it would entrust, free of charge for three years, the opening, custody and promotion of the museum.
