About the museum
The Museo civico archeologico della civiltà e del territorio di Frigento (FriMACT) was founded in 2015 with the permanent exhibition “A Frigento racconti del grano nel vento” (Tales of Grain in the Wind at Frigento), created by the municipality in collaboration with the Soprintendenza archeologica della Campania (archaeological heritage authority of Campania). It is located on the ground floor of Palazzo De Leo, a 19th-century building in the historic centre, where the canon and man of letters Marciano De Leo (1751–1819) lived.
The exhibition traces the history of Frigento in the Roman period, when the community was a municipium governed by two magistrates and lay not far from the route of the Via Appia. The display highlights the agricultural character of the area and presents inscriptions, funerary stelae and a boundary marker that records the agrarian division of the land. A teaching room is devoted to everyday life, with fragments of domestic decoration, oil lamps and food containers.
On the first floor of the same palazzo are the Raccolta d’Arte Pina Famiglietti, founded in 2011 through a donation by Angelo Gabbanini in memory of his wife, and the civic library. The collection comprises 108 works by 53 artists, mostly artists’ prints from the archive of a Roman art printing studio.
