About the museum
The museum is located on Via Torre in Valtorta, in a medieval building that housed the pretura (magistrate’s court) in the Venetian period. The idea for the museum dates back to the early 1980s and arose from the wish to gather evidence of the human and social history of Valtorta and the Alta Val Brembana, preserving the past while also promoting cultural renewal in the village.
The exhibition spreads over three floors and includes some 2,000 objects from different periods and of different sizes, relating to farming, dairy processing, craft trades and domestic life. The rooms are arranged like a traditional house of the upper valley, with a blacksmith’s workshop, a carpenter’s bench, cheese-making tools, a loom and a lathe, alongside chests, cupboards, tables, chairs, children’s toys and cradles.
