About the museum
The MACAM originated from an idea of the poet Carlo Invernizzi, inspired by the vision of “Natura naturans”, in which humankind is part of the vital becoming of the environment around it. The project is linked to the Associazione Culturale Amici di Morterone, founded in 1985, and from 1988 took the form of a museum of artists, conceived as a set of thoughts and creativity rather than of objects.
The small mountain municipality of Morterone, in the province of Lecco, has thus become a large open-air museum: more than forty works are scattered among the houses, on the walls of the buildings and across the landscape, created in close relation with the place.
Among the artists who have contributed outdoor works are Nicola Carrino, François Morellet, Mauro Staccioli, Ulrich Rückriem, Niele Toroni, David Tremlett, Grazia Varisco, Gianni Colombo and Pino Pinelli. In the church of the Beata Vergine Assunta are the Altare Fiore and the baptismal font by Rudi Wach, while in the Casa dell'Arte there is a work by Felice Varini.
