October 3, 2026 – November 15, 2026
Group exhibition that transforms the museum into an inn with a Romagnol dance hall: a brief historical section on conviviality and works by twelve contemporary artists.
The museum is housed in Palazzo Sforza, on Corso Sforza, a building that began as the house of the Attendoli family, where according to tradition Muzio Attendolo Sforza, founder of the Sforza dynasty, was born in 1369. The palace was restored between 1894 and 1897 and declared a national monument. It was hit by bombing in 1944–1945, which destroyed roofs and upper floors, and was rebuilt in 1961 by the architect Carlo Visani of Lugo on the original design.
On the ground floor are the temporary exhibitions and the section on Cotignola in the Renaissance, with the work of local craftsmen. On the first floor are the picture gallery of Luigi Varoli and the archaeological section, which documents settlements from the Roman period to the Middle Ages. In the courtyard facing Via Matteotti, Roman funerary stelae are on display.
The Museo Varoli also includes Casa Varoli, the artist's house and studio, which has a separate location and entrance and is linked to the project of the dispersed museum.
Admission is free.
Free admission. Catalogues can be bought directly at the museum.
At Palazzo Sforza the ground-floor entrance is step-free, but the building has three floors and there is no lift to the upper floors; there is a reserved parking space at number 21. Casa Varoli (separate location) has a lift, accessible toilets, materials in AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) and audio and video descriptions of the collections.
