About the museum
The museum's origins go back to the years after the Second World War, when the civic works were placed in rooms near the “Taroni” Library. In 1965 it was recognised among the minor non-state museums, and in 1967 the town council approved its establishment and regulations.
In 1970 the municipality bought the former convent complex of the Capuchin nuns of San Girolamo in Via Vittorio Veneto, arranged around a cloister; in 1976 the Centro Culturale Polivalente (multi-purpose cultural centre) was inaugurated there and housed the museum. In 2008 the institution took the name Museo Civico delle Cappuccine.
The collections include ancient art, with works of the 15th–18th centuries from the 19th-century suppressions and the Opere Pie Raggruppate, displayed in the Sala delle Capriate, and a section of modern and contemporary art re-displayed in 2017, with the Sezione Enzo Morelli, born from the donation of 1986. The route is completed by the Collezione Dal Borgo, of demo-ethno-anthropological materials, and the Gabinetto delle Stampe (print room), originating from the Ferroni donation of 1986 and enlarged by other bequests, including that of Armando Donna with the equipment for printmaking.
