About the museum
The museum began as an archaeological exhibition titled “Quando l'Ofanto era color dell'ambra” (When the Ofanto Was the Colour of Amber) and is today the town's municipal museum, displayed in the halls of the Norman-Swabian castle. It holds finds from the excavations carried out in the territory of Minervino Murge in the last decade of the twentieth century.
On display are geometric and figurative vases, bronze weapons and objects, fibulae and personal ornaments that formed part of the tomb grave goods, together with household and table ware documenting the daily life of the ancient local population.
The display is divided into four sections, devoted to the aristocratic family, the role of women, acculturation and the victorious warrior. The reconstructed settings, including a scene of everyday life, a small hoard of coins and the tomb of the warrior, make the visit more engaging.
