About the museum
The museum was founded in the 1980s on the initiative of the Gruppo Bassa Padovana, in collaboration with the municipal administration and under the guidance of Professor Camillo Corrain. It tells the story of the relationship between people and their environment in the area between the Colli Euganei and the Adige, from prehistory to the pre-industrial age.
The archaeology section displays the protohistoric grave goods from the Neo-Eneolithic site of the “Selva di Stanghella” (3rd millennium BC), finds from other sites in the Bassa Padovana, and ancient pottery. The ethnographic section gathers tools and objects of rural life up to the complete mechanisation of farming, in rooms such as the Osteria, the Officine Rurali and the Ruralità. The cartography section centres on the large cadastral map known as the “Retratto del Gorzon”, an example of cartography from the period of the Venetian land reclamations, along with other historic maps and an archive-library.
On the first floor, the Pinacoteca Favaro was founded in 1993 following the donation by Pietro Favaro to his native town. It holds 66 works from the 1930s to the 1990s. The museum is part of the museum system of the Bassa Padovana, together with the museums of Granze and Villa Estense.
