About the museum

The museum opened in 2002 on the initiative of the company Aboca, which produces remedies based on medicinal plants, and is housed in the Palazzo Bourbon del Monte in the historic centre of Sansepolcro. The idea was to document the long bond between people and the plants they used to heal themselves.

Most of the objects come from the company's private collection, which has been expanded over time with new acquisitions: herbaria, treatises on pharmaceutical botany, antique mortars, pharmacy ceramics and laboratory glassware.

The visit is divided into three routes. The historical route “Erbe e Salute nei secoli” leads through a series of rooms dedicated to the history of pharmacopoeia. “Aboca Experience” interactively presents the story and values of the company, from organic cultivation to research. “De Divina Proportione” offers a reflection on the relationship between humanity and creation. On the third floor of the palace is also the Bibliotheca Antiqua, with around 3,000 volumes from the origins of printing to the early decades of the twentieth century.
