About the museum
The museum was founded in 1984 by a group of citizens of Santa Cristina e Bissone with a passion for local history and traditions, especially rural life. With the help of the municipal administration they found the building that still houses it today, a restored 1920s structure with more than 200 square metres of exhibition space.
The sections have an educational approach and trace the stages and characteristics of rural life. The museum holds a collection of farm tools and an ethnographic collection focused on rural material culture and folk traditions. Other thematic sections cover trades, traditions and culture, including “Le Mondariso” (the rice weeders), “Dialetti e Dintorni”, “Il Territorio” and “La Via Francigena”.
The museum has a library, an iconographic archive and a photo library. Its work focuses on research and publications, carried out together with local enthusiasts and schools.
