About the museum
The house in which Francesca Saverio Cabrini was born on 15 July 1850 stands on the street now named after her, in Sant’Angelo Lodigiano. It was a modest rural dwelling of the 19th century, bought between 1929 and 1931 by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and restored over time to preserve its original atmosphere.
The route is laid out in six rooms, plus the courtyard behind, in chronological order. It starts in the old family kitchen, with information on the family and on her childhood, and continues with objects and documents on her adolescence and missionary work. The room dedicated to her travels displays clothes worn by Mother Cabrini, a photograph taken in New York in 1889 with the first missionaries who had crossed the ocean with her, and the cloak she wore when crossing the Andes on muleback in 1895. There follow the furniture and clothing from her room in the house in Milan and the Cabrinian documentation centre, which can be consulted on site. A small room illustrates the work of the sisters today and holds a fragment of petrified forest from between New Mexico and Arizona, brought to Italy in 1906. The route ends in a prayer room with the saint’s relic, which reached Sant’Angelo in 1939.
