About the museum
The castle of Sant'Angelo Lodigiano was built in the 13th century in a strategic position between two branches of the river Lambro. In the 14th century Regina della Scala, wife of Bernabò Visconti, turned it into a summer residence; among those who stayed there was Giacomo Casanova, in 1763.
In the early decades of the 20th century Count Gian Giacomo Morando Bolognini had the building restored and furnished as a historic residence. The museum comes from this undertaking: it is set up in the style of a house museum and is now run by the Fondazione Conte Gian Giacomo Morando Bolognini.
The route passes through 24 rooms furnished with furniture, paintings and tableware from the 18th to the 20th century, as well as wrought-iron work. Among the main spaces are the Sala del Trono, the Sala degli Antenati, the Cappella and the Sala degli Specchi. The castle also houses two other museums, the Museo lombardo di storia dell’agricoltura and the Museo del Pane.
