About the museum
The museum grew out of the passion for sacred art and culture of Monsignor Tarcisio Tironi. Thanks to generous donations from local artists it has grown into a point of reference for enthusiasts. It aims to let people admire, study and understand the works, to promote the heritage of Romano di Lombardia, and to encourage contemporary artists to create works of sacred art.
It is located in the historic centre, within the medieval walls, in Vicolo Chiuso, and occupies part of Casa Agazi, a 16th-century merchant's house. Besides the museum, the complex includes a parish library of about 85,000 volumes, educational workshops and exhibition rooms in several locations.
The collections include twenty-two Russian icon panels by unknown authors, dating from the 18th to the 19th century, which trace the main moments of the history of salvation; the cycle of the Miserere; and a section of masterpieces. Simplified visit routes are also planned.
