About the museum
The museum is housed in the palace built for the tenor Giovanni Battista Rubini, one of the great 19th-century opera singers linked to Romano di Lombardia. According to VisitBergamo the collection was established in 1872 at the request of the singer’s widow; today it is run by the Fondazione Rubini.
The building is a late neoclassical palazzo with a façade of six Ionic columns and interiors decorated with frescoes, stucco and Venetian terrazzo floors; in the courtyard the paving bears the coat of arms of the Rubini family.
The route unfolds over five rooms on the ground floor. Among them are the billiard room, which holds documents of the tenor’s private life, and a room with memorabilia of his career. Among the artworks stand out the Last Supper by Giovan Battista Moroni, works by Caniana and works by the contemporary artist Trento Longaretti.
