About the museum
The museum is set up on the noble floor of the Palazzo Mediceo, built between 1517 and 1523, and was opened in 1996 at the wish of the Diocese of San Marino-Montefeltro and the San Leo municipal administration.
The route is arranged in four rooms and presents works of art and liturgical furnishings from the co-cathedral and the diocesan area, dating from the 8th to the 19th century. It begins with the Lapidario, with sculptural finds from the town, including fragments of the cathedral's ciborium (9th century), and continues with the room of painted panels and the tabernacle room.
Among the works, the Madonna della mela (c. 1375) by Catarino di Marco da Venezia stands out, along with the altarpiece of the Madonna and Child between Saint Leo and Saint Marinus by Luca Frosino (1487–1493) and the wooden tabernacle from the Franciscan convent of Sant'Igne. The 17th century is represented by many paintings, and a final room houses scagliola altar frontals.
