About the museum
The Musss is the natural history museum of the Sasso Simone and Simoncello interregional park in Pennabilli. Since 2015 it has been run by the association Chiocciola la casa del nomade APS and is part of the RES network of Emilia-Romagna as an environmental education and sustainability centre.
The rooms present local animals in dioramas that recreate the park’s habitats, including wolf, wildcat, birds of prey, roe deer, foxes and badgers. There is also the Museo del Presente, with natural history specimens, botanical curiosities and finds from the area, partly donated by residents; a geology section on the park’s geodiversity, with minerals and rocks from various origins; and stereoscopes for observing shapes and geometric patterns.
The building includes a conference room for meetings, training, exhibitions and screenings, and a library with volumes and guides on botany, ecology, landscape, local history and environmental education. Schools and groups can take part in workshops and outings in the park led by environmental guides.
