About the museum
The museum in Massa Fermana displays bicycles built or fitted out for a wide range of working activities, and documents a way of life from the 1920s to the 1960s, marked by ingenuity, manual skill and hard work. Most of the pieces are on loan from the Marche collector Bruno Rastelli, born in 1938, who belongs to the third generation of a family of shoemakers.
Among the most curious objects is a cobbler’s work bench mounted on a bicycle, which belonged to an ancestor of the collector and dates from 1895. Alongside the bicycles, vintage motorcycles are on display; according to local sources the collection has included about 60 bicycles and 150 motorcycles, and a new section was opened in 2011.
The museum was formerly housed in the castle of Massa Fermana, on Via Guerrieri. In May 2026 the imminent completion of works was announced for a new home in a restored historic building on Via Garibaldi, which is to house the Museo degli Antichi Mestieri.
