About the museum

The civic picture gallery of Massa Fermana occupies a room in the town hall, a 19th-century building in the centre of the village, in the province of Fermo. The collection is small and mainly preserves sacred art from the area.

The works on display include paintings by Vincenzo Pagani, Durante Nobili and Giovanni Andrea De Magistris, two frescoes, a polychrome papier-mâché bas-relief and bas-reliefs of the Florentine school, together with furnishings and vestments from the convent of San Francesco. In the nearby Council Hall a 15th-century wooden choir can also be seen, partly restored in the last century.

A short distance away, in the parish church of Santi Lorenzo, Silvestro e Ruffino, is the polyptych by Carlo Crivelli of 1468, the master’s first work in the Marche, alongside the panel with the Madonna and Child with Angels by his brother Vittore Crivelli. A visit to the gallery combines naturally with one to the church.
