About the museum
The museum, established in 2003 inside the town hall of Allerona, was created by the municipality together with the archaeological heritage authority of Umbria (Soprintendenza per i beni archeologici dell'Umbria) and the CAMS of Perugia. It tells the natural history of the area, from the Pliocene sea to the Parco del Monte Rufeno.
The collection includes Pleistocene marine fossils, among them whale remains, shark teeth, molluscs, sea urchins and corals, as well as rocks and plants typical of the area. Visitors can observe and touch some of the specimens. The museum also carries out research, environmental education and themed excursions in the area, in collaboration with the district environment laboratory of the Allerona school.
