About the museum
The Museo del fiore is a small natural history museum that opened in 1995 in the Monte Rufeno nature reserve, in the woods above Torre Alfina, a hamlet of Acquapendente. It is housed in the Casale Giardino and is linked to the municipality of Acquapendente and to the museum system of Lake Bolsena.
Its indoor and outdoor spaces are devoted to flowers and to the relationships that bind them to other living beings. More than a thousand species of flowering plants have been recorded in the reserve. The route is divided into the sections “Il mondo dei fiori e degli insetti” (the world of flowers and insects), “Le relazioni ecologiche” (ecological relationships) and “I fiori e l’uomo” (flowers and people), the last of which is also devoted to the tradition of the Pugnaloni of Acquapendente and Torre Alfina.
The museum also includes a workshop with a play area, a screening room, a herbarium and a library, and it is the starting point of the Sentiero natura del fiore (flower nature trail). It offers support to students and researchers, in particular from the University of Tuscia.
