About the museum
The museum was founded in 1977 and occupies the underground rooms of Palazzo Ubaldini, a Renaissance building in Apecchio. It is a space dedicated to geology and palaeontology and holds more than two thousand specimens of high scientific and aesthetic value, including unique pieces such as the ammonite Hybopeltoceras paviai.
The collection includes ammonites, flint tools, cave bear remains, bones of prehistoric elephants and minerals from all over Italy. One section is dedicated to dinosaurs, with skulls, eggs and claws from Mongolia and the United States, and one room traces human evolution from Aegyptopithecus to Homo sapiens.
Each find has an information card. Multimedia tools are available, including video guides in LIS (Italian Sign Language), interactive panels and audio content designed for visitors with visual or hearing impairments. The museum also offers educational activities, guided tours and lectures.
