About the museum
The museum is located in the Candeleto nature reserve, in the municipality of Pietralunga, in an environment of conifer and oak woods, pastures and cultivated fields. The collection began in 1969, when Silvio Bambini had a pheasant stuffed; with the help of hunters from the Upper Tiber Valley (Alta Valle del Tevere), the collection grew to about 320 specimens.
The display offers an almost complete picture of the birdlife of the Umbrian Apennines and also includes some rare species, such as the pink flamingo and the white blackbird, as well as mammals such as the roe deer and the wolf.
