About the museum
The idea for the museum arose during the expansion works of the Centro Tecnico Federale at Coverciano, in view of the 1990 World Cup, on the initiative of Fino Fini. The museum was inaugurated on 22 May 2000, ten years after Italia '90, with the participation of the then Minister for Cultural Heritage and the federal leadership.
The Fondazione Museo del Calcio does not limit itself to telling the history of the Italian national team and of the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC): it presents football as a tool for integration and as a vehicle for values such as solidarity, sacrifice and justice. Guides accompany visitors along the exhibition route, and the museum offers educational initiatives aimed especially at young people.
The building also houses a historical documentation centre on football, with texts and documents that can be consulted on site and a multimedia database of images and videos. The museum holds memorabilia and trophies of the national team and the FIGC, and has a FIGC Store and a bar.
